Cockpit Doors

PROTECH has emerged as a key participant in the construction of bullet-resistant cockpit door armor following the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. Partnering with C&D Aerospace of California, PROTECH produced the first armored cockpit door to receive official certification by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration. Since the July 3, 2002 certification, PROTECH and C&D Aerospace have obtained contracts to supply cockpit doors for more than 5,000 large commercial and smaller commuter aircraft.

PROTECH manufactures the cockpit door ballistic panels from an ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene material noted for its superior structural, ballistic and weight characteristics. The super strong fiber, called Dyneema, is made by DSM of the Netherlands and is 15 times stronger than steel on a weight-for-weight basis. PROTECH has exclusive rights in the United States to use the material. C&D Aerospace selected the panels for their ease in manufacturing as well as their structural characteristics.

The same materials and quality found in the cockpit door panels can be found in a variety of other armored products manufactured by PROTECH, to include boat armor and land vehicle armor.
