BlastShield® - Benefits

This patented "catch system" uses PhiferShield® woven fabric as an interior fixed window treatment. PhiferShield® utilizes high-strength, impact-resistant Spectra® yarn. Spectra® is, pound for pound, 10 times stronger than steel. The yarn is coated to protect it from UV degradation.

BlastShield® also functions as a solar screen, affording the occupant additional benefits commonly associated with solar shading. Its open weave pattern:

  • Permits excellent outward visibility
  • Preserves natural lighting
  • Provides daytime privacy
  • Reduces glare
  • Alleviates unwanted heat gain
  • Saves energy
BlastShield® requires little or no maintenance, and the fabric is washable. It does allow access to the window for cleaning and egress (if required), but is installed to provide 24/7 protection.

The BlastShield® system:

Has a GSA protection rating of Level C, condition 3

  • By itself when subjected to blast loads of 4psi and impulses of up to 30psi*ms
  • In conjunction with film when subjected to loads up to 35psi and 225psi*ms
  • Has an unobtrusive mounting system
  • Works on all types of glazed openings
  • Is appropriate for security window upgrades by the US Government
  • Is particularly well suited for historic buildings and renovation projects
